Christmas Play

16/12/2013

At St Teilo's, every year on Christmas Eve the church holds a D.I.Y crib service. This is a popular occasion on which you can turn up dressed up as anything from the story, an angel, a wise man, a shepherd or even a camel. For a few, the disciples have been taking this a bit further - by instead of just having the characters walk up the aisle to a hymn and stand in front of the congregation until the end of the service, we would add in speech, give people lines to say, make a few twists, add in extra bits and all sorts of different things which give the performance a bit more showbiz, a bit more interest. In other words, we don't like to bore the congregation with the same thing every year. Obviously, we can't change the story line but what we can do is add a bit of 21st century Christmas at the start, maybe at the end too.

This year, we are going to focus on Christmas around the world. We're gong to have a scene from a selection of different countries, and then show you the real Christmas - show you how it all started (i.e. The Nativity) we might even do something at the very end. But time is tight, and we have to begin soon, so we will be giving the blog a sneak peek of some extracts from the script, this week. Very exciting. And we promise to have a review on the actual performance at the end.

Thanks

Welcome Post

At St Teilo's, we have some brilliant clubs and groups where children can have lots of fun, make new friends, and feel part of the church. Firstly, we have DISCIPLES (left) a Sunday School group every two Sundays at Saint Teilo's, during the 10:00 service every 2nd and 4th Sunday. At Disciples we have been working on wall displays, posters, bible scenes, and lots of extra activities involving different Bible Stories. In the picture to the left, you can see some of our members enjoying themselves while making a fair trade poster - we are thinking about doing some charity work (raising money for charity.)
The members of our Disciples want to re-decorate the Upper room (the room that we hold our sessions in) with a small corner with cushions and beanbags where the members can sit down and play a board game etc. We will have a new table, possibly some trays where they can keep un-finished work, and a lot more storage space. We are planning on clearing out lots of our supplies and buying new equipment (pens, paper, paintbrushes, worksheets, folders, glue, paints, pencils scissors etc) To do all this, of course, we need money. We've already started a fund in church, and are hoping to get together some fund-raising events. We already have a few ideas, such as a "Mad hatters tea party" - an Alice in Wonderland themed afternoon tea, with entertainment, a raffle and a hat competition. We might also have a cake sale, put on a play or do anything that could bring together enough money to make the upper room look really nice.

Secondly, we have YOUTH CAFE a brilliant place you can go to after school. It involves a delicious milkshake, and I know from experience that they are extremely tasty - you can have one of a selection of three different flavours, a generous squirt of fresh whipped cream, a fantastic topping (mini marshmallows, chocolate flakes, candy balls and more) a brilliant flavoured sauce and an elegant chocolate wafer on the top. A brilliant deal for just £2, but that's not all. We also have a wide selection of biscuits and cakes including lots of fairtrade chocolates and finally, we have wi-fi. So come along to Youth cafe with your friends, every Monday and Friday, 3pm - 5pm during term time, at The Lamplighter, Bishopston Road. Don't forget, if you bring a friend for the first time, you both get a half price milkshake.

Last, but not least, we have AM I BOVERED? This is a fantastic youth group that is guaranteed to entertain all children. If you love video clips, hot chocolate, quizzes, popcorn, parties and trips then you've come to the right place. We've been going for just over a year, and have had lots of successful trips, where we have been bowling and lots more. Recently we went to Llanmadoc on a residential trip on which we enjoyed going to the beach, rock climbing, playing games and of course having the usual sessions every evening. The food was brilliant, the dormitories were lovely and everyone had a great time. We hope to go on another weekend trip soon, so don't miss out. Come to Am I Bovered (starting back in January) every Sunday Night at The Lamplighter, Bishopston Road for your share of the fun.
